Batwing optical emitters use two lenses to achieve the batwing pattern. A first lens, or primary optic, is a transparent lens attached directly or formed directly on the LED die. The first lens is usually a semi-ellipsoid and functions primarily to extract as much light as possible from the LED die. A second lens, or secondary optic, is fitted and attached over the first lens and serves to shape the beam pattern. Thus, a variety of beam patterns may be generated by changing the second lens design without changing other portions of the LED package. Light thus generated by the LED die travels through a sapphire growth substrate if the LED is solder bonded to the package substrate, optional layers of phosphor material on the die, through a first lens, possibly a gap between the first and the second lens, and finally through the second lens for shaping the batwing pattern offer almost  98% efficiency... !.

LED or Light-emitting diode:

LED’s are used widely as work lights, day time running lights, on aftermarket rear bars, extra brake lights and additional lights for reversing.
Light-emitting diode or LED is a low wattage and very reliable light source.
This makes them excellent for automotive and camping use.
Led lights can have many uses and come in many different shapes and sizes, from tiny lights in those aftermarket rocker switches to a full 1 meter long LED bar.
LED lights are favored more and more as manufactures keep improving the brightness and distance to the point where LED lights may well one day replace the halogen and HID head lights and spot lights.

LED Light Bars:

LED light bars really open up endless options for lighting combos, they come in so many different sizes and shapes which allow them to be mounted anywhere on a vehicle. The light bars also use far less amps and watts of power to run than any other type of light. This also allows for more lights to be added and used all at the same time without installing bigger alternators to make up for the amps being pulled out of the battery.The amount of vision provided by a 1m light bar is massive, thou expensive nothing else can beat the amount of spread and distance at low watts and amps like an LED off road light bar. Light bars come in sizes from 6inches (152mm) to a whopping 48inches (1219mm).The light bars provide spread and distance at the same time, this really makes it simpler to just setup one light bar opposed to combining spot and flood lights to get the same effect. As mentioned above the light bars come in different sizes and shapes. The early light bars could have 3-4 rows, since about 2010 2 rowed light bars were the norm as the LEDs increased in watts/output of light, as of late 2013 the single row lights are starting to take hold as the main choice for powerful light output. Most light bars pre 2012 were 3 watts LEDs now 10 watt+ LEDs are available which brought about the single rowed LED light bars.


Best place to install a LED light bar and how to install: 

The light bars are mainly installed on roof racks and bull bars as a forward facing light providing a great spread. This makes them awesome when 4 Wheeling turning night into day.
Being so bright and casting a wide spread of light it's important to install correctly to a roof rack, if the light bar is installed to far forward it will be shining light into the vehicle either directly in or from light bouncing off the bonnet (hood). Getting light bouncing back into your face is not ideal, if the roof rack is close to overhanging the windscreen perhaps the bull bar will be a better place for installation. Sometimes it could just be a matter of using a different type of bracket to avoid light shooting in the windscreen.
LED lights can be fitted anywhere required; bull bar, roof rack, under the bull bar or anywhere a mount or bracket could be placed.
